As a general rule, everyone of working age has to earn a certain amount before they pay income tax, but there are some rules to bear in mind regarding work if you’re a student. Full time students with holiday jobs do not normally have to pay income tax, but will still pay national insurance contributions, while if you work during term time, you will be treated as a normal employee. The HM Revenue and Customs or resources from the Direct.gov online portal, can provide further advice on student employment, and how tax/national insurance may be affected.
